Our Credentialing

The ACSDD is the only organization that offers an entirely online and on-demand step-by-step approach to Dental Sleep Medicine Credentialing. Clinicians start by earning their C.DSM through the Academic Certificate (Update 2016). With this credential, they can confidently approach physicians and seek insurance reimbursement. As these relationships strengthen and clinical experience is gained, the clinician can then choose to become an ACSDD Fellow and Diplomate.

ACSDD Academic Certificate

The first step in Dental Sleep Medicine Credentialing for the Dentist.  These Academic Certificates are designed for Dentist and Clinical Staff member wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the medical and dental aspects of sleep medicine as well as chair-side experience implementing Dental Sleep Medicine into practice.

Academic Certificate in Dental Sleep Medicine for the Dentist

Dentists who complete the coursework and pass the exam have proven themselves qualified professionals who can effectively treat patients suffering from sleep-related breathing disorders. 12 modules cover both the medical and dental science of sleep medicine. Most dentists are able to complete the 13 CE program in 4-6 months.

Auxiliary Certificate in Dental Sleep Medicine

The 7 modules in the Auxiliary Certificate provide basic knowlege of dental sleep medicine, focused on the role of the auxiliary dental team. Completion of this approximately 4 month, 7 CE Certificate gives clinical team members the chair-side knowledge they need to effectively assist in implementing Dental Sleep Medicine program.

ACSDD Fellow and Diplomate

The next step in Dental Sleep Medicine Credentialing for the Dentist.  Fellow and Diplomate status are designed for Dentist who has completed the Academic Certificate in Dental Sleep Medicine for the Dentist, and can demonstrate a thorough clinical understanding of Dental Sleep Medicine and TMJ-related disorders.

Fellow

Designed for the dentist who has begun treating patients while continuting their education in dental sleep medicine. ACSDD Fellow status requires a minimum of 10 patient cases, completion of the Academic Certificate and 25 CEs in dental sleep medicine, 7 of which are in TMD. If the Dentist has over 20 cases, it is recommended that they move immediately toward earning Diplomate status.

Diplomate

Dentists who have already acquired 45 CEs in Dental Sleep Medicine, 15 of which are in TMD, completed the Academic Certificate in Dental Sleep Medicine for the Dentist and 20 cases are elligible for Diplomate. Five of the 20 cases must be presented in-depth and submitted to the ACSDD for review.

Your membership includes a one year print and digital subscription to Dental Sleep Practice magazine. This quarterly publication includes timely information and clinical articles from health experts and industry leaders on the diagnosis & treatment options for sleep apnea with an emphasis on dental. You can also receive up to 8 CE credits a year.

The Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines (ACSDD) is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to the provider at info@acsdd.org or to ADA CERP at www.ada.org/goto/cerp. The Academic Certificate in Dental Sleep Medicine for Dentist has been submitted for approval by the ACSDD for a maximum of 13 credits as meeting general dental requirements. The Auxiliary Certificate in Dental Sleep Medicine has been submitted for approval by the ACSDD for a maximum of 7 credits.
